I’m linking up with Stasha today for Monday Listicles. The topic this week is What Are Your Passions? I’ve discovered a lot of my passions this past year or so since becoming a mother. Here, in no particular order, are the things I’m crazy about. In a good way. Sometimes obsessive, but usually good.
1. My family, of course. I’m a mama grizzly about anyone messing with my family.
2. My God. My faith is important to me and I’m trying to get back on track with a few things.
3. Nutrition. There’s nothing like being pregnant and having a baby to make you re-evaluate your eating habits. I’m all about ditching the junk and embracing whole, healthy foods. Easier said than done though.
4. My creativity. Being home and not thinking about tax returns all day has allowed me to tap into my creative side. I love knitting, sewing, cooking and I want to learn more about photography.
5. Being a good homemaker. Maybe this isn’t politically correct, but I don’t care. It’s important that my home be a haven for my family and I want to be a good caretaker of it.
6. Reading. I love books and want to pass that on to my child.
7. Travel. I don’t get to do this much anymore, but I’m so glad that I was able to spend a summer abroad in college and travel to different places before I got married.
8. Blogging. And Twitter. Duh.
9. Friends. Friends are so important to me and I try hard to be a loyal and supportive friend. Up to a healthy limit.
10. Allowing myself to just be me without any apologies or regrets. I’m workin’ on it, people.

We’re #9? Behind reading?!
I see how it is.
You? See #1.
You made me cry.
Sap.
I don’t know if you intended this for BOTH of us, but I’m assuming you did, Rach.

Thanks Jen!
Love it. And #10 is something best done little by little everyday, for the rest of our lives…
Glad you are slowing down and enjoying homely things. It becomes you!!
Stasha recently posted..Monday Listicles
Thanks Stasha! Slowing down is good. At least for me.
Of course blogging and twitter is on that list!!

But of course they are! It’s how I’ve met so many of my friends!
What an inspiring list, Rachel! I love #10 especially. That’s so important!

It is important, but so difficult!
#10 – yes! Wish I’d put that instead of, er, shoes

Hey, shoes are fun too. I should’ve listed those somewhere as well!
Lovin’ your list, my friend! There’s a line from the movie One True Thing (it’s in the book too, but I saw the movie before I read the book) that goes something like….the daughter is exasperated with all there is to managing a household and thinks it’s a fruitless endeavor. She asks her mother why she does it, how she does it and doesn’t it drive her nuts? Mother replies, “This is my family. These are the people I love.” I think of that when I’m grumbling about the laundry or dishes or what to have for dinner. There is nothing unimportant about taking care of our families.
I love that philosophy. Whenever I get bogged down by all the chores, I keep telling myself that I am being productive for the people I love and making a safe place for them.
The last one is so incredibly, ridiculously hard. And important. I’m ok with regrets if it means I learned something. But apologizing for being myself happens way too often. I’m working on it, too!

#10 is beyond difficult, but I guess the first step is recognizing it, right? I’m glad you’re also working on it–it’s a good skill to teach our kids.
These are some great passions! I think you’re doing a great job at them.

Thanks Natalie!
I think I need to get pregnant to be able to zero in on the healthy eating.
You’re passions shine through.

Thanks Jen. And yes, #1 applies to you as well.
Aw you are so cute . . . politically correct . . . who cares! If you love to be at home and taking care of all things related to that more power to ya baby!!
I love this list . . . I think it is the perfect description of you. Friendly, loving, way too hard on yourself.

I am way too hard on myself. I’m working on giving myself some grace!
#10. love it.
Thank you!
I need to work on number 10 too. I really enjoyed your list!

Awesome list Rach. I want to be a good homemaker too, I actually wish that’s all I did instead of having to work!

What a fabulous list.

I love number five! I feel the same way and don’t care how old fashioned it sounds! My home is my pride and I love “providing” my family with a clean and beautiful space.

Great list. I like being a homemaker, too. But I suck at it.

On no. 5 – pish-posh to whether or not it’s politically correct.
It’s always a wanted skill, and will always be in fashion, and if anyone tells you differently – just say “pish-posh” to ‘em (pish-posh is the new word my child taught me today, she says it means “silliness.”)
Great post. (-:

Great list. Eating better and taking better care of yourself really is harder than it sounds. Love your last one.

Great list! Especially # 3! It’s so hard to eat healthy with junk food around!

Amen to number 10! I wanted to include something like that but didn’t know how to say it in less than 47 paragraphs. Love how simply and eloquently you wrote it. Six and seven made my list too!
Sarcasm Goddess recently posted.."Those who danced were thought to be quite insane…"
Love the list! Could identify with so many. You’ve motivated me with your taking a cooking class. Spending more of my time trying out new recipes I find.
On another note, I think you do great just being you. ♥

Screw political correctness- if you are happy to be home and want to be, then of course you should enjoy it and make it the best possible place for your family. Who wouldn’t want that?

What a beautiful list Rach. I too have found “myself” through motherhood and I am so grateful.
